Long Ride Down

‘Long Ride Down’ by The Hot Holy Mess   (August 31, 2011) *

Almost too flamboyant for their own good and using a name that this listener can barely take seriously, The Hot Holy Mess goes against everything New York City has been able to stereotype the experimental musician as.  With acoustic intonations reminiscent of When it Falls, ‘Long Ride Down’ is actually a far reaching achievement from a group that, at first look, seems in it for the image.  The track sorts back-beat dynamics with well punctuated melodies that range from long drawn breathes to dotted fragments to produce something original and pure, something intuitively musical.
